I hope everyone has been enjoying their weekend so far. Andrew and I went to see Toy Story (1 and 2!) in 3D this afternoon. It was fun! You can never be too old for Disney movies! (Although I briefly questioned that theory when I realized that we were the only people there without a child)
I have a recipe to share with you guys today! Yesterday I baked a batch of my favorite brownies. I made a few adjustments to the original recipe to make them even yummier than usual. They were super fudgy and chocolatey- just the way I like my brownies. I used a small amount of Kahlua in place of vanilla. The flavor of the Kahlua isn’t very strong in the brownies, but it seemed to enhance the flavor of the chocolate. If you want to really be able to taste the Kahlua I suggest adding more than I did. Next time you’re craving some chocolate or want to bake a special treat for someone, give these a try. You won’t be sorry!

Kiersten’s Killer Brownies
(adapted from VegWeb)
1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
few pinches ground cinnamon
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup canola oil
1 tablespoon Kahlua (or 1 tsp vanilla, if you prefer)
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. *Grease a 9×9 inch square baking pan.
Combine flour, sugar, cocoa, flaxseed, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon together in a large bowl. Whisk well to make sure you break up any clumps of flour and cocoa powder.
Combine water, oil, and Kahlua together in a small bowl.
Add liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir until well mixed (batter will be stiff). Stir in walnuts and chocolate chips.
Transfer batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the edges begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Let cool completely before cutting.
*Make sure you grease the pan really well because these brownies like to stick!

mmmm i want to make these right NOW but i just used up the rest of my vanilla today making granola and it's too late to buy kahlua. =( i wonder what else i can use…
Yum! These look like great brownies!! Thanks for the recipe!
I have a giant bottle of kahlua from a smlove pie last Christmas. Maybe this is a good way to use some of it. I'm sure as hell not drinking that swill.
Hmmm….I think I might have to make these for breakfast – they look THAT good!
I also have some Kahlua hanging around. I don't really drink, I just buy alcohol to use in cooking. I think these brownies might be in order!
Oh my those look good.
Chocolate and fudge texture is exactly what I am looking for in a brownie! Thank you for the recipe.
aw i wanted to see the 3-d toy story SOO bad. i used to really love that movie, i'm sure it'd be great. i'll have to look up times…haha. your brownies are making me crave chocolate yet again…maybe i'll make those
i've never seen a 3D movie, but i can imagine that seeing Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D was so much fun! super fudgy and chocolatey – you have my attention! that's totally how i love my brownies. mmmmmmmm! i'm totally gonna try and make these gluten-free so that i can enjoy them – they sound ever-so delicious and they look fantastic! thanks for the rock'n recipe, Kiersten!
Thanks for the brownie recipe. It looks great! I love 3D movies!
Beautiful brownies! And I totally agree with the Kahlua addition
How aptly named, those do really look killer! No matter how many times I make them, brownies just never get old… And I'm starting to want them all over again!
I think I want brownies now…
Mmmmmm brownies! I have a craving for brownies now! I love the addition of Kahlua, I have some Bailey's in the fridge, I wonder how that would go?
Vegetation- I bet these would be good with the Baileys in place of the Kahlua. If you give it a try let me know how they turn out.
